Diabeto: Your Friend In Diabetes

DIABETO IS A HARDWARE DEVICE THAT SYNCS YOUR GLUCOMETER READINGS WIRELESSLY WITH YOUR ANDROID PHONE OR TABLET. DIABETO IS YOUR FRIEND IN DIABETES.

Did you know that 366 million people in the world have diabetes as of 2011? According to a study by the World Health Organization, this number will have risen to 552 million by 2030, meaning that one in 10 adults will have diabetes by 2030 if no urgent action is taken.

Our featured startup called Diabeto seeks to eliminate the hassle of maintaining a physical logbook and to provide diabetics with a more efficient tool to monitor their blood sugar levels.

One of the eight finalists at Common Pitch Chile, Diabeto is a non-intrusive Bluetooth powered hardware device that enables the transfer of glucose readings from your Glucometer into your android device. The readings can then be analyzed easily with the help of an android application; you can select the time frames, analyze the sugar shifts and can even email the graph to your diabetologist for his opinion.

“I had seen my father struggle with diabetes for the past 10 years, and I really wanted to do something about it,” said Shreekant Pawar, Diabeto’s Co-Founder and Chief of Marketing.

With previous business experience, as well as a degree in pharmacy, Shreekant thought Diabeto was the perfect way to combine his interest in product management and his desire to help those affected by diabetes.

Diabeto’s hardware can easily fit in the user’s palm and is accessible to diabetics who have motor disabilities, visual impairments, hearing impairments, as well as senior citizens and children with type 1 diabetes.

The biggest challenge for Shreekant is creating a hardware design that is appealing to a diverse group of people including children, the disabled, and senior citizens.

“Design is the main element of Diabeto, and what I mean by design is not only the design for the hardware but also the design of the flow and design of the application,” said Shreekant. “We are really focused on making our hardware visually appealing, functional, and usable for a wide range of demographics.”

With office branches in India, Chile, and the United States, Diabeto has a strong international presence among the diabetic community.
