FOUND AND TRANSFORMED

SWORD + FERN IS A COLLECTION OF SUSTAINABLE, HANDMADE JEWELRY.

Photography by Christine Taylor

Founded by Seattle-native Emily Baker, a jewelry aficionado with a bent for social responsibility, Sword + Fern serves as Emily’s personal workshop, gallery, and boutique. Sword + Fern, based in Portland, Oregon, combines her passions for design and sustainability.

Her unique collection features beautiful, handmade jewelry made from used materials, such as vintage chains, driftwood, shells, recycled glass, repurposed leather from secondhand leather products, and steel automobile gasket replacements salvaged from auto yards and polished with vinegar.

Not one piece is identical, due to the differing details of the recycled parts used to create the jewelry.

As a child, she used to love creating necklaces from seashells she found at the beach. Today, she continues to pursue her longtime passion and transforms antique, natural materials into modern, edgy jewelry, proving that beauty can be sustainable too.
